Pentecost |
|||
| Acts 2 1. When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. | |||
The design for the red paraments for Christiana Evangelical Lutheran Church, Salisbury, North Carolina is a blend of fiery color and shape that captures the essence of Pentecost and worship celebrations. The Altar parament design is multi-colored flames that form the shape of a descending dove. The Pulpit and Lectern designs show the people of Pentecost as well as the "Word of God" appearing as "tongues of fire". |

Advent |
|||
![]() Advent is the first season of the year according to the church calendar. These paraments depict Mary & Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus. The pulit hanging depicts the Angel holding a rose which signifies Isaiah's promise. The Angel appears to Mary and delivers the promise to her. “And the angel said to her, the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35)
We know this figure is Mary because she is depicted with Lily of the Valley flowers. Lily of the Valley symbolizes purity and innocence and has often been used as a symbol for the Virgin Mary. ![]() |

The dead tree represents the Stump of Jesse. Isaiah 11 The Rose branching out of the Stump of Jesse is almost in full bloom because Mary & Joseph have almost reached Bethlehem. |

United in One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism |
|||
![]() This piece was commissioned as a gift for the Bishop of Finland. The design for this fabric art expresses that unique union between the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. The right side of the design suggests Tampere, Finland. The left side represents America with the skyline of Baltimore. The churches of these great lands are separated by a vast ocean but united in one faith by one baptism. This is expressed by the cross in the ocean's water and a shell suggesting that baptism. |

A Welcoming Message |

Each separate letter is designed to welcome everyone to worship. In the scene with Jesus and the little children the face of Jesus is not shown. This allows each church member to visualize their own personal image of Jesus. The detail and diversity of the children is representative of the church's unique congregation.
